Hero Arts Summer card

I did this card a while back for a challenge on the Hero Arts Blog.

I thought that these colours were very summery and a butterfly always means summer doesn't it?

Patterned paper: KI Memories (Bloom - grasshoper)
Stamps: Hero Arts (flower, Thank you and butterfiy)
Ink: Stamping up
Glitter: Stickles
Bling: Me and my big ideas
Yellow trim: Doodlebug Paper frills
Used Large rectangle Nestabilities straight and scalloped.

Club Project for July

I know I'm so late... but here are my Stampin'Up Club projects for July.

The little box and mini cards was a make-n-take project at the Stampin'girls convention in May in Ottawa. Cute little project and the ladies from my Club loved it....




The second project is my own creation. Josée, from my Club, asked for a "Spotlight" technique card, so I made this one:

Finally a new card

I was finally able to find time to stamp and make a card!

Last week was very difficult - a new funeral tends to bring back emotions not yet healed from the last ones (my Mom and Dad). But Mom was 92 and had a good life - so we are grateful for that! And it was nice to see my in-laws again. We got to do a lot of reminiscing!

Because of the travelling, we missed Marissa's birthday at the beginning of August. So we celebrated her birthday and our wedding anniversary at the same time at the restaurant last night. Jim and I got married on August 24th, 34th year ago! I have trouble believing it's been that long! Well, Jim is still the love of my life and it's been a great 34 years. Thanks my love if you ever read this!

So here is the card I made for Marissa's birthday - the white around is the envelope, with the cat image stamped on it:



Here is the inside (repeating the cat from the top of the card and the envelope):



I used a technique called Faux batik for the background.
Here is the recipe for the material used:

Papers: White Mulburry paper (for the background), Prism (green and iridiscent mauve), Bazzill Bling CS (turquoise), White Cardstock: SU whisper white.
Stamps: Cat: C.Marie Benoit, Happy Birthday and text inside, Penny Black
Misc: Ink for cats single images and greetings: SU Lovely Lilac, For background: White embossing powder, Vivid inks reinkers, ribbon: Dollarama, Fiskar Lace edge punch.

Back from Vacations

Just back from a glorious week in the Miata around the Gaspe Coast! What spectacular scenery! I have lots of beautiful photos to share...

While we were away, we lost Jim's Mom... so I will not be able to post much this week either... We are bringing her back from Toronto to the Southshore here for her funeral and burial besides my father in law.

I'm so happy to I got to visit with her (very shortly) last May. Here's Mom - one more Angel up there to look out for us; She was 92 years old! She will at last be reunited with her Bill that she loved so much...



I have lost so many people I love lately! Maman in March 06, Tante Madeleine in Sept. 06, Papa in Sept. 07 and now Mom.
Sometimes life is not so easy....

Stampin'Up! Convention 2008 Highlights

This was my first SU Convention and I was impressed. I have attended 5 CKU conventions where approx. 600 ladies (and sometimes men) get together to scrap and have fun. But this convention had approx. 6,200 attendees!!! That is a lot of people! But everything went smoothly. Amazing! The only frustrating wait was 2 1/2 hours the first day for the Momento mall (where they sell SU souvenirs or special items). I did not even advance more than 1/3 in the line.



I had to leave for my visit of Stampin'UP! headquarters. That was a beautiful visit. What a great building!

The inside is all beautiful wood and bright. I'd love to work there! There was a section inside all decorated like a house with SU new products. Here is a room decorated with the new Decor elements.

A beautiful family frame (Decor elements letters and wall designs).



A beautiful armoire all decorated with samples and ideas. (I inherited a very similar armoire from my Mom - I will use these ideas to decorate it!)



A beautiful basket filled with Christmas ornaments:

There is a photo of one of the get-together. The crowd is amazing - and that's not everyone! (that's taken about 1/2 way into the room. They were scafoldings at the back of the room also).



Another thing that impressed me was the swapping! From the first minute to the last event. Ladies were swapping non stop! And most of the cards were of very good quality!



(the blue bag held by two of the ladies was sold in the Memento mall - I got one - it's so nice. Lined inside with a replica of the new Blueberry DP).

I had 50 cards to swap (Thanks to my friends Josée and Francine). Here are my cards:



I had a blue and a red card. Same model, just different colours. The inside was a pop out - if you put 4 cards together, you can make a nice book. Here are the two cards individually and the inside look.








Once I had time to take photos of them, I will show some of the swap cards I collected.

and great news! SU has a new partner: Sizzix! So we'll have our own Big Shot and our own dies, plus a lot of existing Sizzix dies! There is even a bag to hold the machine. It is so cute!!! Sorry, but I can't find my photos of the Big Shot and new bag. I know that Patty Bennett has one on her blog! Go see! (But please come back here LOL).

I was so impressed by the number of sample boards available to photograph. I tried to photograph them all, but there were so many and I got confused and took the same ones twice. Trust me it was easy to do that!

And the great finale to the Convention. We were lucky enough to get seats at the front. The presentions were great! When Shelli got on stage, she talked a little, then was joined on stage by the man in brown himself - the UPS delivery guy! He announced that he had a delivery for everyone! The crowd broke in a scream and confettis started raining! We were each given the beautiful new Ronald McDonald charity fundraiser stamp set!

It was all together a wonderful experience. As I sort through my photos, I will try to post more of the nicer ones.

Also, Jim came with me and we spent a few days before and after the Convention visiting Salt Lake City. I'll post some of these photos later also.

Back from Convention

Just back from SU Convention and I had a blast! What an experience! and yes Jennifer, I have a ton of photos! The return trip was very tough (we got stranded in Chicago because of the storm - ended up in a hotel with no power... then our flights got delayed again and our luggage got lost...). Ended up coming back through Toronto in order to make it home yesterday! Got my suitcases this evening, so I'm sorting out my purchases and my new stamps!! It seems that my suitcase sat in the rain, so my nice paper and the DCWV paper pads that I bought are all damp. And my beautiful new Stamping up bag also (it has water stains) Those bags are gorgeous - everybody got one - and I got mine signed by Shelli. Had to wait in line for 2 hours to get a photo and her autograph, but it was worth it. The bags are brown, green and turquoise!

One of my wishes for convention was to meet a very talented lady, Patty Bennett, well guess what!



Such a sweet lady!!! Even nicer in person that on her blog!! I met her at the gala, so I couldn't ask her to swap - but I kept a card until the end in case I saw her again, but no luck twice!

Anyway she is one talented lady and she has been chosen to sit on the SU Advisory Board! Good choice SU!!

I have lots of photos to share, but I'll have to come back tomorrow. I'm a little upset tonight - my baby boy, Bobbie, left home tonight with his bed - so that's it, he's all moved out and won't be sleeping at home anymore. He has his own home now and Jim and I are "empty Nesters" - I'm very sad.... Now I know how my Mom felt when I left...! Anyway, I wish him well and I hope that he is happy! He certainly is old enough - he's 26 - but I was used to having him around. I certainly hope that he'll keep in touch! I better stop - can't type through my tears....
